Ridgeline House

This classic mid-century modern home with stunning 360° views of the surrounding Walnut Creek hills boasted great bones and a thrilling site—all it needed was to be restored to a fresh but earthy take on its original design ethos. For this major renovation, we stripped everything back to the low gracious lines of the original building, and brought back a modern brightness with a softened, organic touch. Our goal was to rest the home unobtrusively but elegantly within its surroundings, and to create a casual but custom feel within.

Avid entertainers and devoted vegans, the clients envisioned a hardworking kitchen and a home entirely free of animal products.

We designed a professional-grade culinary space with commercial appliances and a slip-resistant tile floor, and a furnishings plan free of wool, leather, and down. Durable materials throughout also accommodate the family's ever-changing roster of foster dogs.

The watercolor-inspired accent tiles of the backsplash echo the rolling hills just beyond the windows — a subtle nod to the landscape that inspired the space.

The fireplace features the natural finish of the artisan-glazed brick tile, together with the sleek line of the cantilevered concrete hearth, beautifully accentuating the home's mid-century design.
