This classic mid-century modern home with stunning 360° views of the surrounding Walnut Creek hills boasted great bones and a thrilling site—all it needed was to be restored to a fresh but earthy take on its original design ethos.
For this major renovation, we stripped everything back to the low gracious lines of the original building, and brought back a modern brightness with a softened, organic touch. Our goal was to rest the home unobtrusively but elegantly within its surroundings, and to create a casual but custom feel within.

In the kitchen, we raised the ceilings, heightened the large windows, opting for a clean trimless finish throughout. We added a walk-in pantry, appliance closet, and temperature-controlled wine room.
For these avid cooks committed to a vegan diet, we designed custom cabinetry, and selected practical porcelain countertops, warm brass hardware, and commercial-grade non-slip tile flooring. With every inch designed to meet their needs, this kitchen is the space where their ethical culinary passion can finally flourish.
The centerpiece of the living room is our custom-designed fireplace, tiled in a very special tile evoking California’s mid-mod craft heritage. The floating hearth is poured concrete, and minimalist alabaster sconces flank the fireplace for a subtle glow. The rest of the furnishings are neutral, organic, and comfortable, with a low profile, so as not to interrupt the spectacular views outside.
In alignment with their commitment to animal welfare, no wool, leather, or down products were selected. Instead, we sourced hardy natural fibers and performance fabrics friendly to their rescue- and foster-pups.
